Rear Projection Televisions remain popular in the larger screen sizes from 46" up to 75".  The best rear projection TV sets are made by Samsung and Sony.  Samsung makes very good DLP Rear Projection TVs and Sony makes both LCD Rear Projection and SXRD Rear Projection TVs.  In the large screen sizes above 50", rear projection TV sets are still less expensive than flat panel plasma sets but the prices for flat panel plasma TVs are coming down fast even in the larger screen sizes.  Most of our recommended rear projection sets are high resolution 1920X1080 so they will give you full 1080p.  At the larger screen sizes you can really see some of the benefit of 1080p especially if you are watching Blu-ray DVDs or playing high resolution games on your TV. 

There are five types of rear projection TVs including DLP, LCOS/SXRD, LCD, D-ILA, and CRT.  The most popular is DLP and Samsung is the dominant brand in large screen DLP rear projection TVs.  Sony makes good SXRD rear projection televisions which use a light engine that is very similar to LCOS.  Here is our recommended list of top models for rear projection televisions.  At the right price you will probably be happy with all of the TVs on our recommended list.
